Puducherry: There is an increase of 5.71 per cent in overall pass percentage in the SSLC public examinations held in March this year in the Union Territory. Chief Minister N. Rangasamy, who released the results at a press conference here on Thursday, said that against a pass percentage of 73.20 in 2005-2006, the Union Territory registered 78.91 percentage of pass in 2006-2007. Out of 15, 368 students, who appeared for the examinations, 12,127 candidates have come out successful. (There are 100 government schools and 101 private schools in the territory. They adopt the Tamil Nadu pattern of syllabus.) Giving region-wise break-up, Mr Rangasamy said that while the Government and private schools in Puducherry registered 79.25 per cent pass (73.07 in 2005-2006), the Karaikal region has come out with 77.51 per cent of passes (73.77 per cent in 2005-2006). As far as Government schools alone were concerned 7,183 students (3,343 boys and 3,840 girls) out of 10,168 (4,969 boys and 5,199 girls) have come out successful in the territory. This recorded a pass percentage of 70. 64 by Government schools. Mr. Rangasamy said that this was an increase of 7.83 per cent over the preceding year. The top three rankers were from private schools. S. Divyabharathi of Vivekananda Higher Secondary School at Sellaperumalpet in Lawspet had notched the first rank by scoring 489 out of 500 marks. S. Gayathri of the same school had achieved the second rank with 486 marks, while N. Vaidheki of Jawahar High School of Koodapakkam in Puducherry scored the third rank with 485 marks.
