CHENNAI : The Global Hospitality and Management Institute (GHMI) has become the newest institute in the city to offer joint certificate and degree programmes with American universities. An initiative of the Arium School of Arts and Sciences in Singapore, the GHMI seeks to provide Indian students with a cost-effective way of obtaining American degrees in different streams including business, sociology, psychology and criminology. The GHMI, in association with Arium, is also offering a certificate in Hospitality Management, said representatives of both organisations at an interaction with presspersons here on Thursday. Students, who have completed Standard 10 and want an American degree, can enrol with the Institute to attend evening classes after school. After accumulating credits by completing courses, they can use these credits to join as a senior in the Colorado State University (CSU).
Credits transfer
If they were able to gain 60 credits in two years, they would be able to transfer the credits and join the undergraduate programme for one of 27 courses in its third year. Balbir Singh of Arium said that the Institute would help students in fulfilling entry requirements. Similar initiatives have been successful in Singapore and Malaysia, he said.
