VIJAYAWADA: The entire stretch of Hyderabad-Vijayawada road would be converted into a four-lane road and the works would commence in next six months. At present only a small stretch of road from Hyderabad towards Vijayawada, and vice versa is four-lane road.

Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, Roads and Buildings Minister T. Jeevan Reddy said tenders had been invited for the proposed works and would be finalised in a month.

Flyover

The works would be awarded on Build Operate and Transfer (BOT) basis, and would start in December or January, he said. The Minister, however, did not give other details like the cost of the works.

Mr. Jeevan Reddy said a flyover would be constructed near Milk Project at Nainavaram at a cost of Rs. 36 crores. Asserting that the State Government was committed to transparency, he said that minimum amount of tenders for the e-procurement would be made Rs. 1 lakh, while the existing minimum amount was Rs. 10 lakhs. He also said that the Government was committed to providing access to all Indiramma villages with population of 1500 persons.

The Minister said that the State Government had spent Rs. 169 crores on roads in Krishna district last year and Rs. 84 crores worth works were in progress, while Rs. 100 crores were in tenders stage.

Referring to his Machilipatnam tour, he said a road from Lakshmi talkies to Parasupeta would be laid at a cost of about Rs.1 crore.

A bridge between Ullipalem and Bhavanipuram would be sanctioned so that Kouduru would have access to Machilipatnam.

Replying to a question, he said that there was no comparison between the progress during the Congress rule and the TDP regime.

When asked about the proposal to connect National Highway (NH) -9 and NH-5 near Vijayawada, Chief Engineer (R&B) Dr. G.V. S. Suryanarayana Raju said it was still at the planning stage. MLC Ilapuram Venkaiah, Mayor Mallika Begum, VGT UDA Chairman Malladi Vishnu and others were present.
