HYDERABAD: Six zonal emergency cells and one centralised cell will function from June 1 in the area of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) to attend to emergencies during monsoon period. All these cells will be manned by staff drawn from the GHMC, Hyderabad Metro Water Supply & Sewerage Board, AP Central Power Distribution Company, Police, Hyderabad Collectorate. All of them will act as a single team and swing into action as and when there is a distress call. The preparations, to be made to meet the emergency situations during the monsoon period, were discussed at a meeting here on Tuesday chaired by Backward Classes Welfare Minister M. Mukesh. The Minister told reporters later that a decision had been taken to expedite all repair works of nalas. The meeting noted that the programme to clean up Kukatpalli, Balkapur and other nalas and keep them ready for the rainy season was being implemented with Rs. 147 crores sanctioned by the Centre. Mr. Mukesh said a special team would be constituted soon to identify weak hoardings in Hyderabad and its neighbourhood for their immediate removal. A plan was also afoot to provide common ducts for casing all types of cables now sagging from the poles.
