Bomb scares hit city

HYDERABAD: Even two weeks after the bomb blast at Mecca Masjid here, bomb scares continued to rattle the city with mischief mongers making hoax bomb calls and people mistaking a bag on the road for bomb on Thursday.

Bomb detection squads and sniffer dogs were rushed to Azeez Plaza, a shopping complex in Feelkhana of Begumbazar in the afternoon following an anonymous call. The caller first rang up the landline phone of complex manager Bhajrang Lal Jain saying three bombs were planted inside the building and they would explode anytime. The manger alerted the Shahinayatgunj police who started searches for the bomb with the help of experts.

However, thorough searches proved it was a false alarm. In a re-run of the bomb threat drama three hours later, an anonymous person called up the security person at E-park building housing reputed software firms in Madhapur.

Workers evacuted

All the 3,000-odd employees working in the building were evacuated by the Madhapur police after the security guard Nagendra Babu received a call around 4.35 p.m. on the landline phone that bomb was kept inside the building.

Searches proved that too was a hoax bomb call.

Around 8 p.m., passers-by grew suspicious after spotting a bag lying on the road near Chaderghat police station. They immediately informed the police. Bomb defusing experts were pressed into service. Everyone heaved a sigh of relief after a lunch box was found inside the bag.
