KUWJ office-bearers

KOCHI : Antony John of Malayala Manorama and P.N. Venugopal, Mathrubhumi, have been elected president and secretary respectively of the Ernakulam district of Kerala Union of Working Journalists. In the election held here on Thursday for the post of two vice-presidents, a treasurer and two joint secretaries, Raju Paul, Mangalam and S. Vinod Kumar, The New Indian Express; K.S. Sudhi, The Hindu; Abhilash J. Nair, Asianet News and R.R. Jayaram, Janmabhumi were elected for the respective posts. M.S. Sajeevan of Kerala Kaumudi, Prabil Kumar of Surya T.V, N. Sreekumar of Veekshanam, Sufi Muhammed of Madhyamam, M.M. Shamsudheen of Siraj and Wilson Vadakumcherry of Sahyana Kairali were elected members of the executive committee.

KOCHI : The District Administration has set up a special cell to receive complaints against the action taken to remove illegal structures on encroached land. Complaints will be received by hand or through post. The contact number of the cell is 0484-2422282.

Irate crowd damages bus

KOCHI : An irate mob hurled stones at a bus that knocked down two persons on a motorcycle at Palarivattom junction here on Thursday evening. The condition of Rajiv C.V., 28, son of Venugopal of Chettiparambu, Ponekkara, Edappally, who has been admitted to Medical Trust Hospital is said to be serious. The other person was given OP treatment at the hospital. According to the traffic police, Edappally, the driver of the bus fled from the spot.
