NEW DELHI: Delhi University's Kamla Nehru College will offer B.A. Sociology (Honours) from the new academic year. Though Sociology has been a component of the B.A. programme run by the college, a full-time three-year course in this subject is a first for the institution. Till now B.A. Sociology (Hons) was being offered only by Hindu College, Janki Devi Memorial College, Jesus and Mary, Lady Shri Ram College for Women, Maitreyi College, Miranda House and Sri Venkateswara College. "We really wanted to start this course for a long time. Sociology is an important subject in these times and everyone is lapping it up. It is the base of social science. We were very keen to start either Sociology or Anthropology from this academic year. But since the ground was ready for the former, we are introducing it from this session," said Kamla Nehru College Principal Minoti Chatterjee. There will be 30 seats for the new course. The college already has two teachers for Sociology and will soon advertise for the position of a lecturer. Students will be required to study 11 main papers and some subsidiary subjects. Meanwhile, counselling for those seeking admission to the college will be held on June 4 and 5.
