Centre draws up norms to regularise illegal colonies

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: The Centre would proceed with the process of proposed regularisation of nearly 1,500 unauthorised colonies in the National Capital Region once the guidelines are ready.

Guidelines are being prepared to regularise some 1,500 unauthorised colonies of Delhi, Union Urban Development Secretary M. Ramachandran told reporters even as he remained non-committal about the exact timing of the finalisation of these norms.

Standard norms

He said the regularisation guidelines would act as standard norms for legalising different types of unauthorised colonies.

Pressed for spelling out the time by which the regularisation of these colonies would be complete, he said, "In the next couple of months, we hope to make substantial progress."

About implementation of the new Master Plan, he said the Zonal Plans would have to be put in place first. The work was on to give finishing touches to these plans, he added.
