BANGALORE: An eight-year-old girl, daughter of a visually impaired cobbler, was sexually abused by a youth in Viveknagar police station limits on Wednesday night. The police said that around 9 p.m., the cobbler asked his daughter to buy beedis for him from a shop near his house. When the girl was on her way to the shop, Kumar (19), watchman of a cinema hall there, lured her into the building saying that he would allow her to watch the movie. He took her to the terrace and sexually abused her, the police said. On a complaint by the girl's parents, the Viveknagar police arrested Kumar. The girl has been admitted in Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital.
Burgled
Thieves struck at a software engineer's house in Jeevanbimanagar police station limits in the early hours of Thursday and took away gold jewellery estimated at Rs. 2 lakh. The police said the incident took place at Manivannan's house in N.R. Colony. In another incident, burglars broke into Manoj's house in Koramangala and made away with gold ornaments estimated at Rs. 1 lakh when his family was away from the house for a few days. The Koramangala police have registered a case.
Suicide
Khaleel (30), a businessman, committed suicide by hanging himself at his house in Mehaboobnagar in Ramanagara town in Bangalore Rural district on Wednesday night. The police said Khaleel, who was running a footwear shop, had suffered losses in business.
Killed in accident
N. Balakrishna (17), a pedestrian, was killed after a Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation bus knocked him down near ITI Colony Circle around 10.30 a.m. on Wednesday.
Arrested
Sleuths attached to the Central Crime Branch (CCB) arrested a software engineer on charge of producing fake demand drafts to buy high-end electronic gadgets on Thursday. The police said that Gowtham, a resident of R.M.V. Extension, had bought a laptop on Wednesday from a shop on Brigade Road after presenting a fake DD drawn on Syndicate Bank.
A call that Gowtham reportedly made from the shop on Brigade Road to another shop in Barton Centre proved costly to him.
Teenager ends life
A 17-year-old committed suicide by hanging himself from the roof of his house in Thambichettipalya near Anandapur on Thursday.
The police said that Edward Binny, the son of Vincent and a car driver by profession, committed suicide in the early hours of Thursday.
They suspect that Edward might have taken the extreme step as he failed in the second PU examination.
