dated June 2, 1957: UK tests another H-bomb

A multi-coloured fireball above the Central Pacific on May 31 heralded Britain's second hydrogen-bomb test. Dropped from a high-flying Valiant bomber, the bomb exploded a relatively short distance from Malden Island, some 400 miles south of Christmas Island. Malden Island was evacuated for the test, but contained a mass of instruments to measure the effect of the blast.
