It will run between Ernakulam and Coimbatore for a month initially. The first service from Ernakulam to Bangalore via will be on June 3 while the first service to Ernakulam at Coimbatore Junction will be on June 4. Last service from Ernakulam to Bangalore via Coimbatore will be on July 3 and from Coimbatore to Ernakulam on July 4.

Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam (TPDK) General Secretary K. Ramakrishnan has flayed the Southern Railway authorities for making a "subtle" attempt to extend the Bangalore-Coimbatore Intercity Express up to Ernakulam.

Mr Ramakrishnan said the extension of this train would affect passengers bound for Bangalore from Coimbatore region especially at a time when traffic was growing in this section.

He recalled the long-pending demand for overnight train connectivity between Coimbatore and Bangalore. To press for introduction of a night train and to stop the extension of the day train to Ernakulam, the TPDK has announced an agitation in front of the railway station on June 1.
