CUDDALORE: The experimentation of the Jawahar Education Society, Neyveli, functioning under the aegis of the Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC), has paid rich dividends by producing a crop of meritorious students, who have secured ranks to gain admission into premier educational institutions, such as Indian Institutes of Technology, National Institutes of Technology and Birla Institute of Technology. A statement released by the NLC said that the society had adopted an integrated approach for a section of students, numbering 22, under the CBSE stream in the Jawahar School to equip them for the competitive examinations for admission to IITs, NITs, and BIT. Besides the regular curriculum, they were trained in facing these examinations. All the students came out successfully in the Plus-Two examinations, and four of them, R.K. Dinesh, P. Bharanidharan, B. Prashant and A. Anandharaj, had secured ranks for admission to IITs, while S. Arun and K.S. Santhosh Raj were placed under Extended Merit List for admission in the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST) and Indian Institute of Science Educational Research (IISER). In addition, 12 students had secured ranks in All India Entrance Examinations for Engineering (AIEEE) and the Birla Institute of Technology Admission Test (BITSAT). It was for the first time that so many students had been qualified for admission in premier institutions at one go. The statement said that in deference to the wishes of the parents, the Jawahar School had started this experiment in 2005 under the guidance of Chukka Ramaiah, founder of Ramiah Institute, Hyderabad, a coaching centre for IIT/JEE examination. Apart from the regular faculty members, experts in IIT/JEE coaching were invited from Hyderabad, Chennai and Tiruchi, and, many model tests were conducted. The efforts of P. Babu Rao, NLC Director (Personnel) and V. Narayanan, Chief Vigilance Officer, NLC, in equipping the students to perform well had provided an impetus to the school. Two other students E. Manibharathi and Vamsi Krishna of Jawahar Higher Secondary School (State Board pattern) had also secured ranks for admission into IITs through private coaching. NLC Chairman-cum-Managing Director S. Jayarman, Directors, and Ramanujam, Principal, congratulated the students.
