HYDERABAD: The State Bharatiya Janata Party on Friday opposed a move on inclusion of seven Muslim communities/groups among the Backward Classes and accused the Government of "using" the BC Commission for its "political interests." Party president Bandaru Dattatreya and party leaders K. Laxman and N. Ramchander Rao said at a press conference here that the Government was trying to provide religion-based reservations in violation of the Supreme Court orders. Questioning the haste with which the notification was issued by the commission seeking suggestions and objections for inclusion of seven communities when 112 requests from other BC communities were pending, they said religion-based reservations were "illegal and unconstitutional." The leaders alleged that the move was not aimed at the welfare of Muslims, but was taken with an eye on the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation elections. They wanted the Government to come out with a white paper on the suggestions implemented so far. Referring to the delay in the implementation of G.O. 610 in the Police Department, they demanded resignation of Home Minister K. Jana Reddy. They pointed out that the Chief Minister had assured the Assembly that non-locals in the department would be repatriated by June-end and extending the deadline till December was "immoral". They urged the Government to fix a definite time limit in enforcing G.O. 610. They warned that the party would launch an agitation against violation of the G.O.
