`Mining bribery' case adjourned

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court on Friday adjourned by two weeks further hearing on a petition by suspended Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLC from Bellary G. Janardhana Reddy seeking to set aside cases registered against him by a lower court and issue of summons.

The 32nd Additional City Civil and Sessions Judge, Bangalore, on August 4, 2006 ordered issue of process against Mr. Reddy following a complaint by Chief Minister H. D. Kumaraswamy and the Home Minister M.P. Prakash after Mr. Reddy had made allegations against them and Minister for Forests C. Chennigappa relating to mining in Bellary district.

In his 33-page statement of objections, State Public Prosecutor submitted that Mr. Reddy had made wild and unsubstantiated allegations of bribery against Mr. Kumaraswamy and others. The remarks were defamatory in nature and a case had been registered against Mr. Reddy in a local court.
