Fact-finding committee to look into roles of lawyers

NEW DELHI:
NDTV on Friday submitted to a court here tapes of its sting operation in which defence and prosecution lawyers in the BMW hit-and-run case were allegedly shown discussing with eyewitness Sunil Kulkarni ways to bail out main accused Sanjeev Nanda.
Additional Sessions Judge Vinod Kumar viewed the tapes. Managing Editor of NDTV Sonia Singh and the reporters concerned were present. The court asked Kulkarni and Investigating Officer Ulhas Giri also to attend the screening.
The trial court fixed July 11 as the next date of hearing.
Delhi Bar Council chairman K. K. Manan announced the constitution of a three-member fact-finding committee, led by the former Chairman of the Bar Council of India C. L. Sachdeva to look into the roles R. K. Anand and I. U. Khan.
In a statement, Mr. Anand said he had sued NDTV for defamation seeking Rs. 50 crore in damages. He alleged that NDTV had erred in judgement by reposing its faith on a man whose character and intentions were doubtful. He alleged that the channel had paid Kulkarni.
