Higher sugar quota

NEW DELHI: In view of demand, the quota of non-levy sugar for the period April-June 2007 has been increased to 41 lakh tonnes from 38 lakh tonnes announced earlier. The quota for June has been increased from 13 lakh tonnes to 16 lakh tonnes. The sugar released for June is required to be sold within a month.

The higher quota is expected to maintain prices in the open market.
