SHIMOGA: The former municipal president B.A. Ramesh Hegde has urged the State Government to take up the construction of a sewage treatment plant immediately. In a press release, he said that a18.16 MLD capacity sewage treatment plant was sanctioned by the Centre at an estimated cost of Rs.3 crore in 2002 under its National Riverwater Processing Plan.
Land acquisition
He said that 41 acres of land was acquired at Tevarachatnahalli on the outskirts of the city after Rs.1 crore was sanctioned by the Karnataka Urban Water Supply and Sewage Board to take up the work. He said that the scheme intended to treat the sewage water coming through the open drains and release into the Tunga after treating it properly at the treatment plant. He said now that the second phase of the scheme had been sanctioned, the capacity of the existing plant be increased so that the sewage water could be treated through the plants sanctioned in the first and the second phases of the scheme simultaneously and release it into the river.
