`Administrative machinery has collapsed'

Staff Correspondent

  • All development works in the State have come to a standstill
  • Chief Minister criticised over pending files

Madikeri: Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council H.K. Patil on Friday charged the coalition Government with bungling on all fronts, saying the administrative machinery has collapsed.

Addressing presspersons here, he said all major development works in the State had come to a standstill. Works such as Upper Tunga, Cauvery basin projects were not being taken up. Housing schemes had come a cropper. No blueprint was prepared by the Government to expedite the special relief package to prevent suicide by farmer, on the lines of `Vidarbha Package", he alleged.

The Government had remained mute to the plight of sugarcane growers as crops worth over Rs. 300 crore could be lost owing to poor price. The Government should provide Rs. 15,000 as relief for each acre of sugarcane crop, he demanded.

Taking exception to the remarks of Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy over the observations by the Congress leadership with regard to handing over chief ministership to B.S. Yediyurappa, Mr. Patil stated that it could not remain a family affair and people must be told about it. The demand of the Congress to know who would succeed pertained to the State, people and legislature. It had to be transparent, Mr. Patil said.

Mr. Patil criticised Mr. Kumaraswamy for feigning ignorance over the number of pending files, which he put at 1,41,193. Whereas, Mr. Kumaraswamy said there were only 128 files pending with him.

Referring to the "Jamma Bane" land issue in Kodagu, Mr. Patil said the Government should withdraw the controversial circulars issued in the past. Appealing to the Chief Minister and the Revenue Minister to expedite the process, he said the Congress could be forced to join the stir if the circulars were not taken back.

Mr. Patil urged the Government to compensate the cooperative societies, which could lose funds over the loan waiver schemes, for enabling farmers to avail themselves of fresh agriculture loans. The Chief Minister should convene a meeting of all concerned to secure funds with regard to the special relief package to prevent farmer suicides.

Former Ministers, T. John and M.M. Nanaiah, were present.
