VIJAYAWADA: Here is some good news for chess players from the coastal region, who are keen on enhancing their Elo ratings. A four-day FIDE rated-cum-State championship will be held at Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation Stadium from June 2, in which over 150 players from all over Andhra Pradesh will vie for honours. Experienced players like Dasari Sai Srinivas, T. Purushothaman and Praveen Prasad will be seen in action in this tournament, which will be held in Swiss format.
Enhance ratings
"Players can enhance their ratings based on their performance. We were able to convince the All India Chess Federation (AICF) to accord rating status to the tournament for the benefit of the players," said P. Srihari, secretary of the Krishna District Chess Association. The top four players in the tournament would represent Andhra in the forthcoming National B championship to be held at Dindigal (Tamil Nadu) from June 10. Mayor Mallika Begum would inaugurate the tournament, while Vijayawada West MLA Sk. Nasar Vali, Annayya Charitable Trust chairman Bonda Srinivasa Rao, Andhra Pradesh Chess Association president Major K. Siva Prasad, secretary Kanna Reddy, district sports development officer B. Sudhakar and regional deputy director (Sports) K. Chinnaiah would grace the function.
