Train services remain disrupted

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: Train services between the Capital and various parts of Rajasthan continued to remain disrupted on Friday. Services connecting north India to Gujarat were also badly affected for the second consecutive day due to violence in various parts of Rajasthan by the Gujjar community.

The Swarna Jayanti Rajdhani Express and the 2917 Sampark Kranti Express to Gujarat were cancelled. The Hardwar-Delhi Mail (9105), starting from Ahmedabad and going to Hardwar, the Ala Hazrat Express (4312), starting from Bhuj and going to Bareilly, and the Okha-Dehradun Express (9265) were also cancelled, causing inconvenience to thousands of passengers.

The Northern and Western Railway authorities opened additional counters to ensure smooth refund of tickets to the passengers.

The decision to cancel the trains was taken by the Railway Board officials here on Friday morning. It was felt that as the violence continued unabated, it was in the interests of the safety of passengers that the trains be cancelled, diverted or rescheduled.

Among the trains cancelled included the 2414 Delhi-Jaipur Express, the 2015 New Delhi-Ajmer Shatabdi Express, the 2463 Delhi Sarai Rohilla-Bikaner/Jodhpur Rajasthan Sampark Kranti Express, the 4321 Bareilly-New Bhuj Express, the 2060 Hazart-Nizamuddin Kota Jan Shatabdi Express, the 2916 Delhi Junction-Ahmedabad Ashram Express, and the 2910 Hazart Nizamuddin-Bandra Terminus Garib Rath Express.

Trains diverted included the 2904 Amritsar-New Delhi-Mumbai Central Golden Temple Express and the 9024 Ferozepur-New Delhi-Mumbai Central Janata Express, according to a Northern Railway release here. Officials said they would review the situation on Saturday.
