Ali wins title

KOLKATA: Seventh-seeded Kamran Ali won the boys' under-12 singles title in the AITA Talent Series tennis tournament here on Friday. Ali defeated the sixth-seeded Venkat Ramanan of Tamil Nadu 3-5, 4-2, 4-1.

The boys' u-14 singles title was annexed by unseeded local boy Shreedhar Gaggar, who ousted the top-seeded Nihal Singh of Bihar in straight sets.

In the girls' section, the u-14 singles title went to top-seeded Mandovi Mullick, while Srijita Ghosh won a double winning both the u-12 singles title and the u-14 doubles title partnering Mandovi.

The results (all finals): Boys: Singles: U-14: Shreedhar Gaggar (Ben) bt Nihal Singh (Bih) 6-0, 7-5. U-12: Kamran Ali (Ben) bt Venkat Ramanan (TN) 3-5, 4-2, 4-1.

Doubles: U-12: Sisir Chilukuri/ Rahul Somani (AP) bt Mudit Kedia (Ben)/ Venkat Ramanan (TN) 4-1, 2-4, 10-7.

Girls: Singles: U-14: Mandovi Mullick (Ben) bt Srijita Ghosh (Ben) 6-1, 6-4. U-12: Srijita Ghosh bt Adrita Banerjee (Ben) 4-1, 0-4, 5-4(5).

Doubles: U-14: Mandovi Mullick/ Srijita Ghosh bt Ritwika Mullick/ Angana Mukherjee (Ben) 4-1, 4-1. — Principal Correspondent
