DOUBLY SWEET: Chikkarangappa came up with a splendid show PHOTO: K. Murali Kumar
BANGALORE: Trouble shadowed Chikkarangappa ever so often in the final round in the BGC-IGU junior and sub-junior golf tournament, but to his credit, he always got out of it. In the end the teenager from a village near Bidadi emerged a worthy winner bagging the titles in both the `A' and `B' categories. It was also a back-to-back double victory for him having achieved the same feat at the Eagleton Golf Resort last week. Going into the final round Chikka had a two-stroke lead over Amanjyot Singh. By the fifth hole, the lead had reduced to just one stroke with Chikka logging a bogey on the fifth. Both dropped shots on the sixth, but Chikka had two great holes with a birdie on the seventh and an eagle on the eighth. Amanjyot stayed close as he scored a birdie on the eighth and 11th. At the end of the 16th Chikka retained a one-stroke lead over Amanjyot. Disaster however was lurking around the corner. On the penultimate hole, Chikka's first shot put him in a horrible position in the roughs. Undeterred, Chikka played aggressively and tried to hit his way out of trouble only to see the shot hit the trees and fall close by. He only reached the green on his fourth shot and went on to make a double bogey allowing Amanjyot to take a one-stroke lead on the 17th. A booming drive on the 18th placed Chikka on the centre of the fairway. Amanjyot's drive took him into the bunker on the right from where he had a difficult second shot. The results: Category `A': 1. Chikkarangappa (73, 69, 67, 71) 280; 2. Amanjyot Singh (68, 70, 73, 70) 281; 3. Rahul Bakshi (69, 74, 68, 72) 283. Category `B': 1. Chikkrangappa (73, 69, 67, 71) 280; 2. Rommel Majumdar (73, 78, 72, 72) and Ashbeer Singh (72, 78, 69, 76) 295. Category C: 1. Rahul Ravi (79, 76, 79, 80) 314; 2. Abhishek Kuhar (85, 83, 78, 76) 322; 3. Rohan Sharma (87, 75, 79, 84) 325. Category `D' (54 holes): Honey Basoya (77, 75, 77) 229; 2. Vidit Singh (79, 78, 77) 234; 3. Prakhar Asawa (84, 80, 82) 246.
