Breakwater at Mappila Bay harbour by June

KANNUR: The main breakwater being constructed, as part of the development of the Mappila Bay fishing harbour will be over in June.

According to the Harbour Engineering Department, a global tender was invited for starting the breakwater construction for the protection of the base of the fishing harbour. The estimated cost of the work was Rs.190 lakh, a release said.

The Mappila Bay project would be full-fledged with the completion of the breakwater. The work was being started using Rs.43 lakh from the tsunami rehabilitation fund.

Dredging the harbour base was over. Rs.61 lakh was earmarked for the work. A press release said Rs.400 lakh-project for renovating Azhikkal fishing harbour was submitted to the Government.

In October

The ongoing construction of the breakwater for the Azhikkal port would be completed in October, the release said. Two breakwaters were being constructed as part of the port development project. Administrative sanction for the port development work, estimated at Rs.825 lakh was received, it said.
