Land issue: Left told to bring out white paper

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: The Congress party has demanded that the Communist Party of India (Marxist) come out with a white paper on the status of implementation of programmes for distribution of house sites and agricultural land in West Bengal and Kerala.

Rajahmundry MP Vundavalli Arun Kumar, Government Whip S. Udaya Bhanu and Congress Legislature Party secretary E. Pratap Reddy in a statement issued here on Friday reacted sharply to the CPI(M) leaders calling on AICC president Sonia Gandhi and complaining about cases being filed by the Government in wake of the land struggle. Mr. Kumar said the CPI(M) leaders, who were spearheading the agitation for land, should bring out a white paper on how the two Left Governments were implementing these programmes there. He reiterated the Congress charge that CPI(M) was pursuing a `hidden agenda' to benefit the TDP.
