HYDERABAD: Vuppanoothala Purushotham Reddy, Chairman, Telangana Regional Planning Development Board, termed the resignation of seven Congress MLAs a "retrograde step." He said on Friday that they were aggravating the situation. "Where is the need for them to resign if they are interested in ensuring that G.O. 610 is implemented as they desired? There are ways to get the order implemented," Mr. Reddy said at a press conference. The MLAs belonging to Rayalaseema and coastal districts resigned from the House Committee on the implementation of the G.O. He said Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy was committed to implementing the G.O. but an "unnecessary ruckus" was being created. Officials could be repatriated and vacancies filled with subordinates to overcome obstacles to implementation, he added. People were in an angry mood over the delay in its implementation which could not be condoned. Mr. Reddy warned of severe consequences if the G.O. was not implemented. Meanwhile, Speaker K.R. Suresh Reddy has directed Chairman of the House Committee N. Uttam Kumar Reddy to convene a meeting of the members shortly to sort out the differences. Mr. Suresh Reddy enquired from the Chairman about the circumstances that led to the MLAs' resignation. He tried to pacify the Congress MLAs after the latter complained that they were being humiliated at the meetings.
