400 shops destroyed in Mohali market fire

Mohali: A fire destroyed around 400 shops in a market here on Friday. However, there were no reports of casualties or injuries, sources said.

Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, accompanied by top officials, visited the spot in Phase 3B-1 and ordered a magisterial inquiry.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Ajoy Sharma will conduct the probe and submit a report within 48 hours.

Expressing concern over the "enormous damage" caused by the fire, Mr. Badal gave an assurance to those who suffered losses that they would be suitably compensated within a week of the submission of the report. — PTI
