THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: K.S. Srinivasan on Friday took charge as Chief General Manager, BSNL, Kerala Circle following the retirement of S.R. Pillai. Marusagar Express cancelled

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The railways have cancelled the 2977 Ernakulam-Jaipur Marusagar Express, scheduled to leave Ernakulam at 7.55 p.m. on June 3, owing to the agitation in Rajasthan and cancellation of the pairing train, a release from the Southern Railway said. — Staff Reporter

Vietnam envoy's visit

Thiruvananthapuram: The Ambassador of Vietnam VU Quang Diem urged the members of the Kerala Council of the FICCI to explore the possibilities of business tie-ups with his country. The Ambassador had visited the zonal office of Muthoot Finance and held talks with the FICCI members led by M.G. George Muthoot, chairman of the Muthoot Group and the FICCI Kerala Council earlier this week. He asked the FICCI members to consider tie-ups in the areas of infrastructure, banking, health care, tourism and horticulture. — Special Correspondent

Training programme organised

PATHANAMTHITTA: The Fever Containment Cell has organised a one-day training programme for various ward-level health and sanitation committee members in the Thannithode, Ranni-Perinad, Kalanjoor, Enadimangalam, Chittar, Seethathode, Vadasserikkara, Naranamoozhy and Vechoochira grama panchayats at Aban Tower here on Friday.

District Malaria Officer Sherly Vardhaman gave a detailed presentation on vector borne diseases and their control measures. State Director of National Rural Health Mission Dinesh Arora, who is also the Special Officer of Fever Containment Cell, District Medical Officer N.Damodaran, NRHM district programme manager Vidyadharan and District Medical Officer (Ayurveda) M.P.Chandrashekharan Nair also spoke.

New zonal manager for PNB

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Krishnan Ramaiah has taken charge as the new zonal manager of Punjab National Bank (PNB), Kerala Zone. He will head the bank that has a network of 131 branches in the State. A chartered accountant with 31 years of banking experience, he has served in the corporate office at Delhi and also in all the metros.

Rights activist dead

THRISSUR: Human rights activist Peramangalam Yesudasan who was admitted to Government Medical College Hospital after he was hit by a vehicle on Tuesday last died on Friday. Yesudasan was hit by a vehicle at Anchuvilakku. The Town East police have registered a case. — Staff Reporter
