Bid to attract better talent to Coast Guard

Coast Guard plans training academy in Goa

KOCHI: Attracting talented youth to the Coast Guard has been a major concern of the force and a wage hike will go a long way in getting talented personnel join the Coast Guard and other Defence Services, Commander, Coast Guard Region (West), and Inspector-General A. Rajasekhar has said. He was answering questions from mediapersons here on Friday.

"The issue of better salaries has been taken up in right earnest by the Defence Minister with the Sixth Pay Commission," he said.

The force, he said, has been participating in education fairs and sending teams to colleges to attract talented youth. Many personnel in the Coast Guard's air arm want to join the booming civil aviation sector where they could get better pay. Interacting with mediapersons after the passing-out parade of 23 trainee officers of the force on board ICGS Varuna, he said the Indian Coast Guard planned to have a training academy in Goa, for which land had been identified.
