CHENNAI: M. Raajhendhran, managing director of Raj TV, and his supporters joined the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam in the presence of Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi at the party headquarters, Anna Arivalayam, here on Friday.

At a function held to mark the event, Mr. Karunanidhi, welcoming the new members, said that he was accepting them as his birthday gift. [Mr.Karunanidhi's birthday falls on June 3.] All of them would be part of the mass movement called the DMK and would be his brothers and sisters, he said.

He recalled that he had attended meetings organised by the TV channel whenever he was invited and did not let anything stand in between.

Mr.Raajhendhran said that he was born a DMK man and would remain a DMK man till his death. He said that his father was a DMK sympathiser from as early as 1962 and that some people had come in between and spoilt the relationship. Asked how his channel would maintain neutrality in the changed scenario, he said Raj TV had always been a neutral channel. It was the people's channel. He was the one joining the party, not the channel, he said.
