Abduction of panchayat chief's kin alleged

Staff Reporter

They have "confiscated" printing machinery from the press

KANCHEEPURAM : The Maathur village panchayat president T.Thamizhiniyan lodged a complaint with the Vishnu Kanchi police, saying his brother-in-law R. Dinakaran of Kancheepuram, a printing press-owner, was abducted by a gang posing as policemen on Friday.

In his complaint, Mr. Thamizhiniyan said that around 20 persons clad in police uniforms came to the printing press on Madam Street here at around 9. 30 a.m. and picked up Mr. Dinakaran.

The gang also took away cash and "confiscated" printing machinery from the press.

Stating that the local police — Vishnu Kanchi police — had expressed their ignorance about the incident when he (Thamizhiniyan) contacted them, the complainant urged the police to rescue Mr. Dinakaran.

Meanwhile, State organiser of the Indian People's Front Raghava Raj alleged that Mr. Dinakaran was arrested by Mappedu police in Tiruvallur police district for printing posters condemning the action of Thakkolam police, on a request from the Front.

He alleged that the Mappedu police had not informed the local police about their action.

They had also "confiscated" printing machinery and money from the press without producing any warrant or legal notice, Mr. Raghava Raj alleged.
