Sanjeevaiah park to be a major tourist attraction

  • BPPA seeks to take the views of experts
  • 50 participated in a consultation workshop

HYDERABAD: The Buddha Purnima Project Authority is all for developing the Sanjeevaiah Park through a consultative process.

The area around the Hussainsagar lake spanning about 902 hectares was brought under a special authority, the Buddha Purnima Project Authority (BPPA), for developing it into major recreation zone as also to protect the area from further encroachments.

The sprawling 85-acre Sanjeevaiah Park, earlier under the control of Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad, had been handed over to the BPPA as it was under the latter's jurisdiction for developing it into a major tourist attraction.

But in view of Supreme Court restrictions on development work in the vicinity of Hussainsagar lake to ensure protection of lake environment, BPPA sought to take views of experts and people from different walks of life on the draft plan prepared by the consultant as per the directive of HUDA Board.

Around 50 participants from different categories, including consultants for entertainment parks, designers, visitors to park, including those practising yoga, morning walkers, NGOs, officials from various organisations, participated in the consultation workshop held last month, according to BPPA Special Officer Chandra Mohan Reddy.

The participants were of the view that Sanjivaiah Park should not be developed like NTR Garden.

It should have more of greenery and minimum concrete structures, with facilities for joggers, yoga practitioners, soft music, separate areas for children with innovative entertainment equipment.
