HYDERABAD: Minister for Civil Supplies Kasu Venkata Krishna Reddy on Friday promised that the Government would consider the long-standing plea of a hike in commission for fair price (FP) shop-dealers. He was stating this in response to a representation to this effect at a felicitation meeting held by the Andhra Pradesh Fair Price Shops Dealers Federation. He, however said that while being very understanding, Government would not spare anyone resorting to malpractice, regardless of the political party they belonged.
State-level meeting
Mr. Reddy said a State-level meeting on Civil Supplies was being convened very soon and he promised that he would take up the cause of dealers and do his bit to ensure that commission rate was increased. Federation Convenor A. Bashaiah recalled the origins of the Public Distribution System (PDS) when the late Indira Gandhi was Prime Minister and said while dealers generally were inclined to serve the poor, they had their problems too. For example, the legal heir clause that was modified in 1983 had affected their livelihood when the head of the family died. An amendment was required, he said. Vice-Chairman, Andhra Pradesh Labour Advisory Board, Bala Pochaiah said that for the past 20 years they had seen so many Chief Ministers come and go but their commission continued to remain the same - Rs. 17 a quintal for rice and wheat.
