`Hired killers' held for leader's murder

Staff Reporter

  • The assasins killed Jagadishwar Reddy at Uppal for Rs. 4.5 lakh
  • Two of them are also involved in a real estate businessman's murder

HYDERABAD: It is learnt that rivalry with some of his party leaders and disputes in land deals led to the recent killing of Congress leader Jagadishwar Reddy at Uppal.

The Cyberabad police on Friday picked up five hired assassins, all hailing from Nimboliadda, for killing Reddy for an amount of Rs. 4.5 lakh.

The police sources said that investigators stumbled upon evidence linking another Congress party leader Y. Sridhar Reddy, who already surrendered before a local court pleading innocence.

    Petition

The Cyberabad police had already filed a petition in the court seeking Sridhar Reddy's custody.

"We'll ascertain his role after interrogating him," a senior police officer said.

Two of the hired assassins taken into custody were earlier involved in the murder of real estate businessman Venkatesham Goud in Madhapur a few months ago.

The duo and three of their associates were allegedly hired by Sreedhar Reddy, his associate Jitender Reddy and a land broker Balraj for eliminating the victim. They paid Rs. 4.5 lakh to the killers.
