Mahout gored to death

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A mahout, Soman, 54, of Erattupetta was gored to death by a tusker, Gangadharan, after it ran amok at Mulayara, near Vilappilsala, on Friday.

The elephant used for logging wood ran amok around 4.30 p.m., the police said. The animal was brought under control by a veterinary doctor at around 7.30 p.m. at Kattakkada.

Soman was brought dead to Government Medical College Hospital (MCH) here.

Killed in accident

A 30-year-old woman working in a stone quarry at Kadavila, Attingal, was killed on Friday when a huge piece of rock fell on her. She was identified by Government Medical College Hospital (MCH) authorities as Saroja of Palamkonam.

Admitted to MCH

A mother and daughter who are said to have attempted suicide by consuming poison were admitted to the MCH in a serious condition on Friday.

They were identified as Jaya, 50, and Nadia, 23, of Sreekaryam.

Priest dead

Joseph, 42, a priest attached to the Latin Catholic Diocese committed suicide allegedly by consuming poison on Friday at his ashram at Pulinkodi, near Vizhinjam, the police said. He was from Eravipuram in Kollam.

Found dead

Dhanesh, 25, a peon attached to the artisans' cooperative society who went missing from his house on Sunday last, was found dead in the Parvathy Puthanar canal on Friday morning. He was a resident of Muttathara.

Chain snatched

A two-member motorcycle-borne gang snatched the gold chain of a 29-year-old woman near Pachalloor school on Friday evening.

The Thiruvallam police have registered a case.
