NEW DELHI: Power distribution companies with surplus power will have to first offer it to their counterparts in the Capital facing a shortfall and then consider selling it to other States. In a decision taken at a meeting here on Friday, Delhi Transco has asked the discoms to meet Delhi's own demand before selling surplus power to other States. "We have told the discoms to notify by 11 a.m. each day the total power generation for the day and subsequently the surplus in a particular slot. This surplus should first be offered to the other discoms in the city who need it. Otherwise it can be sold to other States as per proper agreements," said S.R. Sethi, Director Operations of Delhi Transco. Mr. Sethi said the discoms had been asked to appoint their officers at the State Load Dispatch Centre to carry out sale and purchase of power on a daily basis.
Relief
The decision will spell relief for the city, which has been witnessing an increase in the demand for power, especially in the summer months. "The DERC had made it clear that discoms will have to offer surplus power to their counterparts before selling it to other States. In its order dated March 31, the DERC has laid down that in the event of allocation results in excess capacity in the hands of any discom at any time, such excess capacity should be offered to other utilities in Delhi if such spare capacity cannot be absorbed within Delhi it shall be offered to others," Mr. Sethi said.
