Undertrial murdered on court premises

Staff Reporter

TUTICORIN: An undertrial was murdered on the district court premises here on Saturday.

The police said P. Sankarapandi (25) of Melakaranthai under Maasarpatti police station limit had developed enmity with Gurusamy of the same area. On December 7, 2004, Sankarapandi murdered Gurusamy's mother Lakshmi, wife Sakthi, daughter Lakshmi and his relative Murugesan.

Sankarapandi was arrested and lodged at Palayamkottai Central Prison. When he was brought to Fast Track Court I here on Saturday along with another undertrial with two armed policemen escorting them, Gurusamy, one of the witnesses of the four murders, hacked Sankarapandi to death as the victim entered the court complex. As head constable Easwaramurthy, escorting the undertrials, tried to save Sankarapandi, he lost four fingers in the left hand. After being admitted to hospital, he was later taken to Nagercoil for a surgery.

The Tuticorin south police have arrested Gurusamy.
