THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Society is turning its face away from good cinema, actor Nedumudi Venu has said. He was participating in a face-to-face programme organised at the Press Club here on Saturday to discuss the making and theme of the film `Thaniye.' The director of the movie, Babu Thiruvalla, was also present. Mr. Venu said compounding the issue of lack of public support for good cinema was the acute lack of infrastructure to display it. Such was the state of affairs today that it was suspected that various government bodies set up to promote good cinema were doing precious little in that direction, he added.
Theme of `Thaniye'
In his address, Mr. Babu said the central theme of `Thaniye' was the neglect shown by the youth towards old people. The film portrayed the state of affairs in society today where old people were almost unwanted. "The film also explores what love is and the disturbing effect of lack of love on man. This is what I have tried to say in the movie," Mr. Babu said. `Thaniye' was made not for commercial success but for the sake of making a good movie, he added.
The cast
The film has Nedumudi Venu and Lakshmi Gopalaswamy in the lead roles, supported by KPAC Lalitha, Mamukkoya and Ashokan. Mr. Venu and Mr. Babu have jointly written the screenplay and dialogues. The film has been produced by `Friends of Thiruvalla.'
