Thales software to expand

Staff Reporter

CHENNAI: European electronics major Thales has plans to expand its software development centre in Chennai into a research and development centre, the company's senior officials told the media here.

At a press conference organised here, Reynald Seznec, Senior Vice-President, said the company would recruit 300 engineers for its software development centre in Chennai by the end of 2008.

It currently employed 100 engineers who were involved in the development of the company's overseas software assignment.

He hoped that the software centre would grow to a research and development centre by the year 2010, by which time the company hoped to have at least 1,000 engineers in Chennai.

Francois Dupont, country corporate director of Thales in India, said Chennai was chosen for the quality of work more than the cost of labour. Countries like Ukraine and Romania offers IT workforce at half the price in India. But the quality of work here is much better."

Thales has a strong presence delivering mission-critical information systems and services for the aerospace, defence and security markets.
