BHUBANESWAR : In an attempt to strengthen the cultural bond with Oriya communities staying outside the State, the Orissa Sangeet Natak Akademi has come forward to host regular cultural programmes in such regions. Addressing newsmen here on Saturday, akademi secretary M.N. Satpathy said that an Oriya folk dance festival would be organised at Rishra in West Bengal on June 6.
Collaboration
The day-long event would feature some of the best known troupes of Ranapa, Chadheiya Nacha, Ghumura dance, Laudi dance, Bagha Nacha, Ghoda Nacha and several other folk forms, he said. An estimated 30,000 Oriyas inhabit in and around Rishra that is nearer to Kolkata city, the secretary said. Several Oriya cultural associations of West Bengal came forward to collaborate in hosting the event, he added. Culture Minister S.N. Patro and culture secretary G.N. Mohanty would interact with the Oriya organisations about future collaborative programmes.
Talent hunt
In an attempt to spot the hidden talent at the grassroots level, the akademi organised a district-level talent hunt competition among youth in the age group of 14 to 20 in Odissi dance, Odissi music and other classical instrumental music on May 27. District councils of culture collaborated the event that received rave response, he said. The best performers of each stream from the district level would be invited to participate in the State level competition to be held at Utkal Sangeet Mahavidyalaya auditorium on June 10.
