KOZHIKODE: The Indian Farmers Movement (Infam), which has been leading struggles for farmers' rights, alleges that a huge amount earmarked for irrigation and agriculture schemes by the Central Government in Kozhikode district has gone unutilised. Infam general secretary Fr. Antony Kozhuvanal said here on Saturday that Rs.1.135 crore of a Central allotment of Rs.1.65 crore had lapsed in the district last year. In this context, he emphasised the need for greater care and commitment in implementing schemes meant for the welfare of farmer. The Kozhikode district committee of Infam, at a meeting, welcomed the decision of the State Debt Relief Commission to declare Wayanad and Idukki districts as disaster-affected regions and the Central Government decision to earmark a sum of Rs.25,000 crore for the farm sector in the country.
