Yet another concession to government staff

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: In yet another concession to the State Government employees, the Government on Saturday decided to do away with the practice of suspending personnel on the day of retirement.

The decision was taken at the 18th meeting of the Cabinet chaired by Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi at the Secretariat.

The practice of placing employees under suspension on the day of retirement, as part of disciplinary proceedings, was in vogue now, an official release said.

The Cabinet also decided to bring forward an amendment to the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Act, 1959, to end confusion caused by an amendment introduced by the All India Anna Drvida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) government in 2003 with regard to Samadhis and Brindavanams.

The amendment effected by the previous AIADMK government facilitated bringing Samadhis and Brindavanams under the control of the HR and CE Department, it recalled.
