Bar council issues show cause notice

Prashant Pandey

NEW DELHI: A day after constituting a three-member fact-finding committee to look into the roles of senior lawyers R.K. Anand and I.U. Khan in the BMW hit-and-run case following the sting operation by NDTV in which the two were shown talking to eyewitness Sunil Kulkarni on how to bail out main accused Sanjeev Nanda, the Delhi Bar Council (DBC) on Saturday issued show cause notices to both the lawyers.

The decision to issue notices was taken at the meeting of the DBC in which 20 of its 25 members participated. Both the lawyers have been asked to explain their stand by July 20.

The New Delhi Bar Association has criticised the media for running a "venomous and defamatory campaign" against the senior advocates.

The association, at its meeting on Friday, felt that the conduct of the media, especially NDTV, was derogatory not only to the two but also to the entire lawyers' community. The operation had an ulterior motive and should be condemned.
