60 p.c. turnout for Hamirpur by-poll

Hamirpur (H.P.): About 60 per cent voting was recorded in by-poll for Hamirpur Lok Sabha seat that passed off peacefully on Saturday.

"No incidence of violence was reported from anywhere during the polling," Deputy Commissioner and returning officer for the seat Rajneesh Kumar said.

The voting percentage has been about 60, he added. Women outnumbered male voters and they were seen in large numbers at polling stations.

BJP candidate and Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal cast his vote early in the morning after he and his family offered puja at temple of Maanawahedvi.

His Congress rival and State forest minister Ram Lal Thakur exercised his franchise at Bilaspur. . — PTI
