HYDERABAD: Congress MP V. Hanumantha Rao has urged Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy to introduce legislation on the lines of the Karnataka State Land Reforms Act in the next session of the Assembly for the successful implementation of land reforms. Mr. Hanumantha Rao on Saturday called on the Chief Minister and submitted a memorandum urging him to bring out legislation, as the number of multiple registrations had gone up. He pointed out that due to escalation in land prices in the State, particularly in and around Hyderabad, land grabbers and mafia were resorting to violence. He explained to the Chief Minister that rightful owners were being threatened to sell their land or plots at rates fixed by the mafia. He noted that if there was provision for severe punishment of three to five years of imprisonment and imposition of heavy penalties, multiple registrations can be stopped.
