Development board should implement GO: Lok Satta

Special Correspondent

`Neither Congress nor TD Governments had will to implement the GO'

HYDERABAD: Lok Satta Party National Coordinator Jayaprakash Narayan has suggested that the Telangana Regional Development Board should be entrusted the task of implementing GO 610 on jobs for locals in Telangana.

Repatriation

Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, Dr. Narayan observed that neither the Congress nor the Telugu Desam Governments had the political will to implement the GO issued way back in 1985.

He said the GO involved repatriation of 28,000 out of 9.5 lakh Government employees from Telangana to Andhra. He termed as unfortunate the resignation of Congress MLAs from Andhra and Rayalaseema regions from the House Committee.

`Amend statute'

Dr. Narayan said the Constitution should be amended to provide constitutional status, power and resources to the regional development boards created recently by the State Government. He said the board did not enjoy any constitutional status under Article 371 D.

Referring to the regional disputes over sharing of Krishna and Godavari water, he said the next river water tribunal should go into the allocation of water among different regions within the State. The Godavari and the Krishna should be treated as one basin since Krishna water could not be diverted to Rayalaseema region unless the Godavari water was diverted to the Krishna basin downstream.
