Staff Correspondent
Raichur: Dean and Director of the Raichur Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) Chandrashekar has said that the first year medical course at the government medical college here is likely to commence from the coming academic year. He told The Hindu on Saturday that the management of the RIMS had almost reached satisfactory level while providing staff and the infrastructure for commencing the first year MBBS course. A team from the Medical Council of India, which concluded its two-day inspection on Saturday, was satisfied with the infrastructure at the medical college. It was hoped that the MCI might give its approval for commencing the first year medical course from this academic year, he said. He said that the seat allotment for medical course through the Common Entrance Test had begun. As per the Supreme Court directive, the seat allotment for new medical college here might be possible till the end of September provided the MCI accorded its permission to commence first year MBBS course, he said.
Faculty
On the availability of faculty at the medical college, Dr. Chandrashekar said that the management had recruited about 80 per cent of the required staff for all branches, including physiology, anatomy and biochemistry, and hoped to fill the remaining posts before the end of this month following a Government Order increasing the salaries for medical staff.
