Hubli-Dharwad
Staff Correspondent
HUBLI: The Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation has suspended a junior architect and withheld the benefits of a retired woman employee on charge of corruption and cheating. According to a release issued by Municipal Commissioner P. Manivannan, I.S. Shidaganti serving as junior architect at zonal office No. 9 had deliberately collected less money from property owners towards building permission, violation fee and other fee. Although senior officials had warned the junior architect, he continued doing the same and brought down the revenue due to the corporation from commercial buildings. He also deliberately cancelled some completion certificates issued to buildings, the release said. Since the corporation suffered losses to the tune of lakhs of rupees, a show-cause notice was issued to the employee in question, to which he failed to give a satisfactory answer. The Commissioner had said through the release that Mr. Shidagunti had been suspended with immediate effect pending a departmental inquiry.
Withheld
In another case, the Commissioner had ordered withholding of benefits (except pension) due to a woman pourakarmika who retired recently, as she was found to have collected lakhs of rupees from candidates aspiring to get a job in the corporation promising them immediate recruitment. The name of the employee has been given as B.R. Shantamma, who served at the Corporation Hospital in Old Hubli before retiring on May 31. During the preliminary investigation it had been found that the employee had not only fabricated a recruitment advertisement for the posts of 64 clerks, but had also collected Rs. 10,000 each from more than 600 candidates promising them jobs. Following the outcome of the investigation, the corporation had registered a criminal case against her at the Old Hubli Police Station.
