VIJAYAWADA: Activists of the city unit of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) occupied the dried-up tank land at Payakapuram on Saturday as part of the party's continuing `bhoo poratam'. Women in large numbers from Singhnagar, Santhinagar, Payakapuram, Rajivnagar, Kandrika and surrounding areas gathered at the site in the morning and made arrangements to prepare food for the activists. State committee member of the party Ch. Babu Rao, who had his lunch at the site along with the party activists, said that the poor launched the agitation for house sites on May 16 and it would continue till the Government distributed surplus lands to them. He criticised the State Government for failing to keep its poll promise of distributing house sites and pucca houses to the poor even three years after coming to power. Mr. Rao advised the activists to apply for house sites afresh on June 6. "As the Chief Minister wants the poor to apply afresh for the house sites, those who need a site will have to submit an application to the revenue officials," he said.
