KARIMNAGAR: The Gambhiraopet police on Saturday rescued a businessman who was abducted by former naxalites and others demanding a ransom of Rs. 15 lakh with the arrest of a former naxalite. Police sources said that a person on the pretext of selling foreign currency kidnapped businessman G. Koti Bhaskar from his shop in Gambhiraopet mandal on May 30 on his motorcycle. Later, the businessman was shifted into a four-wheeler, which was parked on the outskirts of the village. He was kept him in the dense forests of Kancherla and Marrimadla village. Later, the abductors warned the family members of dire consequences if they fail to pay the ransom. Following the complaint, the police kept a close surveillance on the movement of suspected naxalites and nabbed one person. After his confession, the police rushed to the jungles to rescue him, but the former naxalites and others released him sensing the wrath of the police. The police arrested former naxalite M. Narsaiah and intensified operations to arrest other former naxalite Kanakaiah, main accused Devaiah of Vemulawada, Ali Khan of Karimnagar, Mohan and Medi Raju.
