KADAPA: Jana Vignana Vedika (JVV) is striving hard to achieve woman empowerment, curb social evils, preserve environment and bring about social awareness among people, its State general secretary G. Vijaykumar said on Saturday. He said at a press conference that the JVV was putting up stiff resistance to the proposed uranium project in Pulivendula in Kadapa district. It could successfully stall a uranium project mooted near Nagarjunsagar, he recalled.
SCs confused
The JVV was striving to bring about a change in people's mindset. A pilot study in Chitvel mandal depicted that Scheduled Tribes were in disarray due to lack of knowledge. The JVV would hold training classes in the districts and a State-level convention soon, Mr. Vijaykumar said. HIV was rampant in Prakasam district and was spreading rapidly in Kadapa district and hence preventive steps needed to be propagated, he said. Its campaign against ragging had led to its near eradication in 50 colleges in the State.
Blood donation
Stating that JVV was promoting blood donation in coordination with Chiranjeevi Trust, Mr. Vijaykumar said the State had four voluntary blood donors per 1,000 people, as against double the requirement. Claims of Bathina Brothers of Hyderabad that they would cure asthma by fish medicine was proved scientifically wrong by the Vedika, he said.
